“I‘ll Never Fall in Love Again” from Promises, Promises (1969 London Cast)
music, Burt Bacharach. lyric, Hal David.
performed by Betty Buckley, Tony Roberts
I love how simply and elegantly this number builds from solo-with-acoustic guitar up to Broadway 11 O’Clock Number. And Buckley is just sensational in this role. There is just something so thrilling about the very tambor of her voice! I also really appreciate Tony Roberts’ toned down performance here, and he task was not an easy one—not only does he have to “originate” a role in the shadow of his Tony-winning predecessor, he also has to sing hit songs with Betty Buckley and not look like a fool (a problem Jerry Orbach just didn’t have to worry about with Jill O’Hara
